Napoléon crossing the Alps

2018

As a reinterpretation of Napoléon Crossing the Alps, this painting links the neoclassical art of Jacques-Louis David with the constructivist and cubist movements of the 20th century. My aim was to capture the colours and dynamism of the original piece in the styles of Popova or Braque. A study of the piece was made using graphite on paper, and the painting was then made using oils on oil paper.

London architecture series

2018

This series of photographs explore modern architecture in London through some of its most important landmarks. For every composition, I have tried to show either the idea of repetition or reflection in architecture, sometimes both. I also wanted to explore contrast and the relationship between buildings and light, with the hard shadows cast by the buildings' geometry.

Self-portrait

2018

To improve my skills using oil paints and to explore Constructivism and Cubism, I made a self-portrait. I tried to play with colours, contrast and shapes, and included symbolic elements in the background. The chair and table designed for my furniture set can be seen, along with shelves full of books, a simplified version of Napoléon Crossing the Alps, and a miniature steam train. Oil paints on canvas.

A history of Architecture

2018

This is an A1 pen and ink drawing on paper. It explores the history of western architecture through some of its most iconic buildings placed inside of a cube, in a more or less chronological order. On the first stage, a cave, the Erechtheion, Pont du Gard, and Pantheon can be seen. On the second stage, the Treasury of Petra, parts of Notre-Dame of Paris, the Tower of Pisa, the Sainte-Geneviève Library and the clock face of the Elizabeth Tower are represented. The third stage includes the Flatiron Building, the  Dessau Bauhaus Building, the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, the Cité Radieuse and the Wainwright Building. Finally, on the top stage are the Elbphilharmonie and the Heydar Aliyev Center, as well as an empty space representing the architecture of the future.

Portrait of a man

2017

This portrait was a speed-painting exercise, and was done in one hour. The idea was to let go my imagination and feelings and focus less on technicality and precision. Oil paints on oil paper were used for this project.
